2025 Recap and Looking Forward

Music Practice Room Notes

Issue No. 1Building practice tools that think like musicians do

Welcome!

For two years, we've explored how technology can support musical growth without getting in the way. Now we're sharing what we've built and what's coming next and we'd love your feedback to guide the next steps.

🎵 2025 Recap and the Chamber Music Reader

In our first two years, we focused on rapid experimentation. We built simple test apps like a scale builder, rhythm game, and a metronome buddy to explore new ways technology might improve how you practice and collaborate. One idea stood out enough to refine into something we're ready to share: the Chamber Music Reader.

The Chamber Music Reader is a PDF reader designed specifically for chamber musicians. It gives you quick access to the full score from your part, so you can see how your line fits within the ensemble. We've focused on real rehearsal workflows like adding cues, experimenting with bowings, and navigating to exact measures so you stay focused on making music.

The Chamber Music Reader is available for beta testing by sign-up only. We're working with musicians actively engaged in chamber pieces, preparing customized parts alongside software access. This helps us refine the tool before a wider launch.

🥁 The Metronome, Reinvented

Have you ever practiced your part to perfection with a metronome, only for everything to fall apart as soon as the other parts come in? A metronome should do more than click; it should help you understand how your rhythm fits within the full musical texture.

At Music Practice Room, every idea included a metronome in some form, and so our goal to build a new kind of metronome was born, one that teaches you not just your rhythm, but how it interacts with all the rhythms around it.

Key features: Subdivide rhythms, build shifting patterns, and always know exactly where you are within the measure. A growing library of rhythmic patterns helps you explore how different parts fit together, whether you're locking into a fiddle tune or navigating a complex ensemble passage.

🗓️ Connecting with Fellow Musicians

We're brainstorming a Music Contacts and Library app to make organizing music gatherings effortless. Keep all your musician friends in one place with their instruments and preferences (tablet or paper), plus track your music scores and PDFs.

Quickly see what pieces are available and pick the perfect set for a jam session or reading party. We're building this to help amateur musicians spend less time organizing and more time making music together.
